DRIMS
Dynamic Response Intelligent Monitoring System (DRIMS) evaluates road conditions at inexpensive cost using a smartphone on an ordinary vehicle.
An IoT solution for road
DRIMS estimates road profiles accurately by analyzing the responses of a vehicle measured by a smartphone.
The analysis algorithm based on vehicle mechanics and data assimilation theories outperforms conventional statistical analysis of vehicle response data.
The accuracy has been certified through official tests. Collection of vehicle data in large scale can result in comprehensive understanding of road network conditions.
what Can DRIMS Do
Evaluation
DRIMS can evaluate the quality of road after construction or repair work by accurately estimating the profile of the road.
Diagnose
DRIMS can be used with computer vision technologies to assist the diagnosis of the road condition and the determination of appropriate remedies.
Monitoring
The condition of a road network can be monitored for pavement management.
Study
The easy-to-install and accurate profile estimation allows obtaining
data needed for a variety of road-related research.
Features
Low-cost and Simple
Just by installing a smartphone on a four-wheel vehicle, the road profile is estimated accurately through ordinary drives. The installation is not limited to a specific location of a vehicle as long as the smartphone is fixed to the vehicle body.
Accurate
The International Roughness Index (IRI) is estimated with a high degree of accuracy. The accurate evaluation is achieved not only on highway routes, but also on local roads with traffic signals.
Automatic Calibration
The vehicle parameters are calibrated using ordinary drive data; the dynamic characteristics of vehicles are automatically estimated and incorporated in the profile estimation. There is no need for laboratory testing or test runs at specific conditions for vehicle calibration.
Robust and Efficient
Because the validity of vehicle modeling is always examined internally and the parameters are updated as needed, the robustness of profile estimation is high. Once the automatic calibration determines the vehicle parameters, the calculation time of the road profile estimation is short.
Big Data Analysis
DRIMS can collect data from many vehicles to a server which automatically analyzes the data and visualize the road condition, which makes it possible to have a comprehensive understanding of the road network condition. Therefore, road maintenance can become efficient with the participation of many private and commercial vehicles.
